Lorde to release Hunger Games single ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ next week

The song is her first new material since last year's 'Pure Heroine'

Lorde is set to release her new song ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ next Monday (September 29).

The track will feature on the soundtrack to the forthcoming Hunger Games film and sees the teenage singer teaming up with Adele and Coldplay producer Paul Epworth. The song was recorded at New Jersey’s Lakehouse Recording Studios after the premises were recommended to the singer by Bruce Springsteen. The song will play over the closing credits of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.

Lorde will also curate the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, working on the music for the third film adaptation from the best-selling book series, which will be released on November 21.

Lorde recently shared a photograph from the studio as well as a lyric sheet, confirmed to be taken from the Hunger Games song, featuring the line: “I’m a princess cut from marble, smoother than a storm.”

The first female artist to win the Best Rock Video prize at the MTV Video Music Awards last month (August 24), Lorde recently claimed she is struggling to write new songs as the material sounds too similar to her first album, ‘Pure Heroine’.

“I’m definitely writing new stuff,” she said. “I don’t know how everything will end up. The first period of writing after you have recorded an album, it all sounds like the album before it. I’m trying to get that out of my system and move it to a new place. But I’ve been writing with some good people and just doing weird, cool stuff, which is always good for being creative.”
