Legendary New York venue celebrates 20 years

Lou Reed to play Knitting Factory birthday

Lou Reed has been confirmed to perform at a show celebrating the 20th birthday of Knitting Factory in New York.

Hosted by Knitting Factory founder Michael Dorff, the event called 'The Old Knit', will take place in March at the Town Hall venue in midtown Manhattan, and will also feature performances by Laurie Anderson and Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, among others.

The Knitting Factory originally opened in 1987 on East Houston Street in Nolita, it relocated in 1994 to its current location in Tribeca.

Known as a starting point for bands such as Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo and other alternative New York bands, the venue was also known as a place for film, poetry and performance art. It also has a sister club in Los Angeles.

The Knitting Factory itself will be announcing official 20th birthday celebrations shortly.

'The Old Knit' will take place at the Town Hall venue on March 1.
