He’ll be the first act to play the HighLine Ballroom

Lou Reed is set to be the first act to play New York venue the HighLine Ballroom.

Amy Winehouse, .moe, Mos Def, Spank Rock and Talib Kweli are also among the acts confirmed for shows at the new 700-capacity venue, which is set to open on April 30.

Named after a disused elevated railway that runs along the west side of Manhattan, the venue is situated on 16th Street in the Meatpacking district.

The HighLine Ballroom will also contribute to the local neighbourhood, donating 25 cents from every ticket sold to ’Friends of the High Line’, the non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation and reuse of the High Line elevated rail structure.

A limited number of tickets will be sold to the public for the opening night performance by Lou Reed, and will cost $85.
