Lyrebirds have announced that they have split up.

The Brighton-based five-piece revealed the news via their Twitter account, Twitter.com/lyrebirdsmusic, this morning (December 13).

"We're sorry to say that we have decided not to carry on as a band anymore," the band tweeted. "We'd like to say thank you to everyone who bought our records and supported us."

Lyrebirds formed in early 2009, releasing their Stephen Street-produced debut single, 'Closer', last January. Their last release was 'The Blondehead EP', which came out on November 22. They never released a full album.
