M83 mainman Anthony Gonzalez has revealed that he has signed on to provide the score for the new Hollywood blockbuster Oblivion, which will star Tom Cruise.

The film, which is being helmed by Tron:Legacy man Joseph Kosinki, tells the story of a veteran soldier-turned-space explorer, played by Cruise, who is sent to a distant planet to destroy the last remnants of an alien race.

Speaking to The Playlist about the soundtrack, Gonzalez said that the prospect of providing music for the Hollywood epic "excited him more than frightened him". He said: "I'm not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure. I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me."

M83 returns to London next month to play a sold-out show at Somerset House on July 16 and will also play the UK capital's O2 Academy Brixton on November 8 later this year.

Following the release of the double album 'Hurry Up, We're Dreaming' last year, M83's next release will be the single 'Reunion'. The 'Reunion' remix EP will be released on May 27, and features reworkings of the track by Mylo, The Naked And Famous and We Have Band, amongst others.

M83 recently offered to write Katy Perry's next album. Gonzalez posted on his Facebook page Facebook.com/M83 that he wanted to write her record after she said she'd watched his set at Coachella. He said: "I think I saw Katy Perry dancing on 'Midnight City' yesterday night. Katy, let me write your next album:)."
