Copenhagen is set to host the 2006 MTV Europe Music Awards.

The ceremony, which will be the 13th in the event’s history, will take place on Thursday November 9.

Brent Hansen, President of Creative, Editor-In-Chief, MTV Networks International, said of the decision: "Copenhagen boasts some of the world's leading creativity and design, combined with a truly exciting, vibrant music scene. This city is the perfect setting for a global music event of the scale of the MTV Europe Music Awards.

MTV is currently considering a number of potential locations for the event. Details will be announced shortly.

Artists including Madonna, Coldplay, Gorillaz and Robbie Williams performed at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards Lisbon on November 3, which generated more than 13 million audience votes via online and WAP.

Artists taking part in the upcoming MTV Europe Music Awards 2006 will be announced in the new year.

Copenhagen will join Lisbon(2005), Rome (2004), Edinburgh (2003), Barcelona (2002), Frankfurt (2001), Stockholm(2000), Dublin (1999), Milan (1998), Rotterdam (1997), London(1996) Paris (1995) and Berlin (1994) on the roll call of hosts.
