Madonna encourages more people to adopt from Africa Madonna Tickets
Material Girl urges laws change
Madonna has said more people should adopt children from Africa.
As previously reported, the singer was accused by adoption groups of using her celebrity to bypass laws about foreigners adopting from Malawi when she adopted a boy called David late last year.
However Madonna said: “There’s over a million orphans in Malawi, and in my opinion the laws need to change because these children need to be rescued.”
The singer said of the adoption process: “We were basically creating the laws as we went.”
Madonna added that she was warned by a social worker that adopting a child from Malawi would be difficult.
Speaking on ’The Late Show’ she told host David Letterman: “She didn’t say don't do it, but she just said expect challenges and boy did we get them.”
