Madonna seeks delay in adoption case

Madonna has called for a hearing to finalise her adoption of Malawian child David Banda to be delayed.

The singer's law firm has filed an application requesting the High Court in Lilongwe hear the adoption case on May 15 instead of April 22, as originally scheduled, according to a lawyer close to the case.

Madonna is believed to have delayed the hearing because of the singer's need to travel to the US for business reasons.

But court officials have refused to confirm they have received an application from the singer according to Thomson Ligowe, assistant registrar in the High Court, reports Reuters.

It is thought Madonna's adoption will go ahead after the Malawi government recommended the approval of the adoption earlier this month.

The adoption proceedings, which first began in 2006, have caused controversy in Malawi with many protests over the laws which ban non-residents from adopting children in the African country.
