Madonna 'devastated' by roof collapse death

Singer releases statement after tragedy in France

Madonna has released a statement regarding the tragic death today (June 16) of a worker at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille, France.

The as-yet unidentified victim died after the roof collapsed while the stage was being constructed at the stadium on Tuesday (July 14). At least six people were rushed to hospital, two of them are in serious condition.

“I am devastated to have just received this tragic news,” the singer said in a statement. “My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news."

The show had been due to take place on Sunday (July 19) as part of her 'Sticky And Sweet' world tour. It has been cancelled.
