Madonna will be sued by French National Front over swastika image
The Front National will file a lawsuit after Madonna depicts its leader with a swastika on her forehead
The provocative image, which appears in a video accompanying the song 'Nobody Knows Me', had already prompted a threat from Le Pen after it was shown at previous stops on Madonna's 80-date MDNA tour. Last month (June), Le Pen pledged: "If she does that in France, we'll be waiting."
Last night (July 14), the image was shown again at Madonna's concert at Le Stade de France in Paris - immediately before an image resembling Adolf Hitler. Florian Philippot, the vice-president of the Front National partly, has now confirmed that a lawsuit for "public insult" will be filed within the week.
Explaining the basis for the lawsuit, Philippot said: "This is just another provocation in Madonna's world tour so that people will talk about her. We cannot accept everything. We cannot accept this insulting connection. Marine Le Pen is defending her honour, but also that of party members and supporters and the millions of Front National voters."
Madonna's 'MDNA Tour' will return to France for a second date on August 21. Before then, the singer is due to play three shows in the UK, beginning at London's Hyde Park on Tuesday (July 17). The tour also hit the headlines when Madonna exposed her nipple during a gig in Istanbul last month (June).
