Madonna has revealed that she once dated late rapper Tupac Shakur.

Shakur, better known by his stage name 2Pac, passed away in September 1996 following a drive-by shooting. Now, Madonna has confirmed that she was romantically involved with Shakur two years prior to his death.

Speaking to SiriusXM radio host Howard Stern, Madonna spoke about a 1994 appearance on the Late Show With David Letterman, saying: "I was mad at [David Letterman] when I said the F-word a lot. I was in a weird mood that day. I was dating Tupac Shakur at the time and the thing is he got me all riled up on life in general. So when I went on the show I was feeling very gangsta."

Madonna's romantic involvement with Shakur had been subject of rumours over the years, with an unauthorised 2007 biography called Madonna: Like An Icon previously claiming it to be true.

Meanwhile, Madonna made headlines recently following a highly publicised fall at last month's Brit Awards. The star fell backwards down a flight of stairs after an Armani cape she was wearing did not come loose in time and a dancer pulled it while still fastened.

Madonna previously explained she was with a doctor until 3am following her tumble and suffered whiplash, whilst Giorgio Armani recently blamed Madonna for the fall and branded the pop star as "difficult".

Madonna addressed the fall later, saying: "If I wasn't in good shape, I wouldn't have survived that fall. But I'm strong. I know how to fall – I ride horses. And I have core strength, and I know that saved me. That and my guardian angels."

Madonna’s new album Rebel Heart was released earlier this week (March 9) and is set to be Number One this weekend.

The singer tours the UK in December. O2 priority tickets are on sale now, with general tickets on sale from Monday (March 16).

Madonna will play:

London O2 (December 1)
Manchester Arena (14)
Birmingham Barclaycard Arena (16)
Glasgow SSE Hydro (20)
