Manic Street Preachers announce Welsh warm-up gig

Godlike Geniuses prepare for Reading and Leeds Festivals

Manic Street Preachers are set to play a warm-up gig in Newport, their only Welsh show of 2008.

The band will perform at the city's Newport Centre on August 21, in preparation for the Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Manic Street Preachers will headline the NME/Radio 1 Stage in Reading on August 23 and Leeds on August 24.

Speaking about the warm-up show, bassist and lyricist Nicky Wire said: "We have not played the Newport Centre since 1997 and that was a warm-up for a Reading headline appearance.

"That night was pretty special, and as this will be the band's only performance in Wales this year we are all really looking forward to it and sure it will be just as memorable."

Tickets for the gig go onsale at 9.30am tomorrow (July 18).
