Marianne Faithfull to co-curate exhibition at Tate Liverpool

Period Piece will feature pieces from Francis Bacon, William Blake, Lucian Freud and open April 20

Marianne Faithfull is co-curating an exhibition at Tate Liverpool, called Period Piece.

The show, which runs April 20-September 2, sees her working with Darren Pih of the Albert Dock gallery as well as ex-husband John Dunbar, co-founder of London's Indica Gallery. Faithfull has taken inspiration from her life to choose the pieces on show, reports the Liverpool Daily Post.

"I have been fortunate in that my life is intertwined with those of artists and performers whose work is a continuing inspiration, which has guided the selection of works for this exhibition," said Faithfull.

Artists featured in the exhibition include Francis Bacon, Balthus, William Blake, Marlene Dumas and Lucian Freud. A photo by the late Robert Mapplethorpe – an ex-lover of Patti Smith – of Faithfull in 1976 will be featured in the exhibition, as will the late Richard Hamilton's Swingeing London 67, which features Faithfull's former partner, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones.

Marianne Faithfull released her 19th solo album, 'Horses and High Heels', last year. Recorded in New Orleans, it featured guest appearances from Lou Reed and Wayne Kramer of the MC5.
