Marilyn Manson has been cast in the next series of US TV show Californication.

Manson will be playing himself in the sixth season of the David Duchovny starring drama/comedy, reports Vulture.

The shock rocker – real name Brian Warner – has quite an impressive acting CV already, appearing in David Lynch's Lost Highway, 2003's Party Monster, The Heart Is Deceitful About All Things in 2004 and, most recently, appearing in the short film Born Villian, the Shia LeBeouf directed accompaniment to Manson's new 'Born Villain' album.

Marilyn Manson recently spoke to NME about the inspiration behind 'Born Villain' and how he considers himself to be the most blamed person "in the history of music". Speaking in a video which you can see by scrolling down and clicking, Manson explained why he'd named the album 'Born Villain' and said that his inspiration went right back to the public outcry after the Columbine massacre of 1999.

Speaking about the record's title, Manson said: "'Born Villain' is the perfect title for this record because it's who I am. It's a question of nature or nurture, are people raised to be villains or vilified like I have become?"

He continued: "When it comes to things like Columbine, it would have been different if they [the shooters] had actually liked my music, but I think that I have had more blame accredited to me then any person in the history of music. There should be some sort of Grammy for that."

Marilyn Manson will play a special, one-off show at London's O2 Academy Brixton on July 5. The singer had been originally booked to play Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth Park over the weekend of July 6-8 until the event was cancelled.
