MANSON TO LEAD BIBLE STUDIES CLASS

MANSON TO LEAD BIBLE STUDIES CLASS
MARILYN MANSON has said he is "truly amazed" at the religious protesters opposing his forthcoming appearance at OZZFEST in DENVER.

As previously reported on NME.COM, Manson, who will appear at Ozzfest events across the US this summer, had originally pulled out of the Denver date on June 21 due to scheduling conflicts.

It was speculated at the time that the cancellation came as the result of concern over the 1999 Columbine High School shootings, which occurred nearby. The self-styled Trenchcoat Mafia, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris shot and killed their classmates at the school.

Manson has not played in the area since the shootings and it was claimed the killers were fans of the rocker's music. This idea was later proved to be false.

However, Manson will now appear after all. As a result, a group of church leaders and families related to the Columbine incident have formed Citizens For Peace And Respect to oppose his show.

The group are, according to their website at www.nomanson.org, "a group of concerned citizens who have organised to oppose the negative influence of Marilyn Manson on our community".

The group are requesting Manson does not appear, and have started an online petition via their website. The group are also planning a series of peaceful demonstrations on and around the date of June 21.

However, speaking on his official website, www.marilynmanson.com, the singer has declared his intention to perform at the event, and will "balance" his stage act with "a wholesome Bible reading".

He wrote: "I am truly amazed that after all this time, religious groups still need to attack entertainment and use these tragedies as a pitiful excuse for their own self-serving publicity. In response to their protests, I will provide a show where I balance my songs with a wholesome Bible reading. This way, fans will not only hear my so-called, 'violent' point of view, but we can also examine the virtues of wonderful 'Christian' stories of disease, murder, adultery, suicide and child sacrifice. Now that seems like 'entertainment' to me."

Manson will not appear at the Ozzfest in the UK. However, he is confirmed to appear at the Carling Weekend Festivals in Reading and Leeds over the weekend of August 24-26.

A single release around this time is a possibility, with 'The Nobodies' being the likely choice.
