Marilyn Manson has defended his friend Johnny Depp in the wake of the actor’s divorce from Amber Heard.

The actors’ divorce was settled in August, with Depp agreeing to pay the $7m (£5.3m) settlement to two charities nominated by Heard.

Manson is godfather to Depp’s 17-year-old daughter Lily-Rose from Depp’s relationship with singer Vanessa Paradis and has regularly appeared on stage with the actor.

The singer told The Daily Beast: “Johnny is one of the nicest people I know, to the extent where it’s almost heartbreaking how kind he is to his friends and everyone around him. I know that he was completely crucified, unjustly.”

Manson added that Depp has begun to move on from the relationship, which began when the pair met filming The Rum Diary in 2012. Manson said: “I’d stand by Johnny on anything. I know he’s handling it the best he can. He’s a great dad, too. It fills me with joy to see his kids grow up so smart and so hilarious.”

Heard made allegations of domestic abuse against Depp. These were withdrawn when the divorce settlement was finalised, though one of the charities the settlement money is going to is domestic abuse charity ACLU. The other is The Children’s Hospital Of Los Angeles, where Heard has volunteered for a decade.

Manson said: “That drama was bullshit. I wouldn’t agree with any of it if someone were to put me on the stand and ask me what I know or what I’ve witnessed.”

Manson releases new album ‘Say10’ on Valentine’s Day in 2017.
