Marina And The Diamonds' Marina Diamandis has admitted that she was worried people "wouldn't allow" her to become a pop star.

The singer's second album 'Electra Heart', released earlier this year, was a drastic change in direction from her debut LP 'The Family Jewels' and, in an interview with Drowned In Sound, Diamandis revealed she had had concerns about alienating her fanbase.

''I think that I wasn't allowed to change and that deep down I wanted to write a pop album and to be a popstar," she said. ''For some reason, I felt like people wouldn't allow me to do that, which is stupid because I love the album.

''So I should have just never said anything and accepted that some people would have said 'she's not credible anymore' and that some people would start to be a fan of me, because that's what always happens when you change your music," she added.

Last month (September 28), the singer hit the headlines after she claimed that her record label Atlantic had delayed the release of the video for her track 'How To Be A Heartbreaker' because she looked "ugly" in it. You can see the video by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.

Marina And The Diamonds are currently half-way through a UK and Ireland tour, and will play the remaining dates this month:

London HMV Forum (11)?
Lincoln Engine Shed (14)?
O2 Academy Oxford (15)?
Dublin Olympia Theatre (17)
