Mark Ruffalo to play the Hulk in ‘The Avengers’?

Marvel close to announcing Ed Norton’s replacement

Mark Ruffalo is reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios to play The Hulk in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers.

The role was played by Edward Norton in the 2008 movie The Incredible Hulk, but it was confirmed that he would not be reprising it for The Avengers. Deadline is now reporting that the Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind actor is in line to take over.

The film, written and directed by Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV series creator Whedon, and produced by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, is an adaptation of the popular Marvel Comic series The Avengers, which features a team of superheroes including The Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America.

The film already has an impressive cast, including Robert Downey Jr and Don Cheadle reprising their roles as Iron Man and War Hero respectively, Chris Evans as Captain America, plus Samuel L Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner also co-starring.

The Avengers is due for release in 2012.
