'West Wing' actor signs up for superhero movie

Martin Sheen is set to play Peter Parker‘s uncle Ben in the latest Spider-Man film.

The West Wing actor is in advanced talks to star in the eagerly awaited superhero movie, playing the character of Parker‘s uncle, who raises Peter with his wife May after the hero’s parents die.

It is rumoured that Sally Field from the ABC family soap Brothers & Sisters is in talks to play May, reports

Sheen will join a cast that includes The Social Network‘s Andrew Garfield in the lead and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy.

Rhys Ifans will play the as-yet unnamed villain.

The film, director by Marc Webb, will be shot in 3D for proposed release in 2012.
