Massive Attack and Adam Curtis for 'collective hallucination' at Manchester International Festival
Massive Attack have joined forces with acclaimed filmmaker Adam Curtis for this year's Manchester International Festival

The performance piece, Massive Attack V Adam Curtis, has been described as "a collective hallucination" by Robert Del Naja of Massive Attack and "a musical entertainment about the power of illusion and the illusion of power" by Adam Curtis.

Current details on the show are scant, but the piece will be performed eight times, from July 4-7 and 10-13, at a city centre location. Tickets go on sale February 1 at 10am (GMT). For more information on ticketing, visit www.Mif.co.uk.

The show is being staged in collaboration with Felix Barrett of the Punchdrunk theatre company and costume designer Es Devlin. It has been specially commissioned by Manchester International Festival and Ruhrtriennale International Festival of the Arts.

The xx will also be playing a series of intimate shows at the Manchester International Festival.

The gigs will be held in the city from July 4-21 and will be performed in front of no more than 100 people.

The event is held every two years. The last festival in 2011 saw Bjork, Snoop Dogg, Wu Lyf and Damon Albarn perform.
