Massive Attack's 3D records film soundtrack

Track appears in Italian flick 'Gomorrah'

Massive Attack man 3-D, real name Robert Del Naja, has provided soundtrack music for a new film.

'Herculaneum' appears over the end title credits of Italian film 'Gomorrah', which opened last weekend in the UK (October 10).

The film, based on Roberto Saviano's book of the same name, comprises six short stories about Italy's modern-day mafia and has been tipped for an Oscar nomination.

The track is available to listen to at Massiveattack.com.

Enough of this nonsense, where the fuck is the new Massive Attack album? We've been waiting nearly six years now!

Don't you mean "3D gets other people to play all the music for a fairly paltry fee then takes the credit"? He's well known for it. Choosing bits of other people's ideas is a pretty poor basis for calling yourself a musician. Frankly I'm amazed they still have the respect they do - haven't put out a decent record since Blue Lines. A soulless parody of themselves these days.

"haven't put out a decent record since Blue Lines" - Are you serious? You really think they only did one good album? As genius as Blue Lines and Protection are (both definite 10/10 albums without a shadow of a doubt), Mezzanine is easily the best thing they ever did. To be honest, they have never put out a bad record, even 100th Window (which bizzarely got some negative reviews) is head & shoulders above most oput from other bands these days. The reason 3D gets the credit he does is simply because he (along with Daddy G) writes the songs, always has done, obviously they get input from others but the main core of MA has always been them two. To suggest 3D isn't talented is ludicrous. I for one am really looking forward to the new record. From hearing the new tracks released with the best of.. from a few years ago its shaping up to be another classic.

They're the jammiest fuckers alive. Get everyone else to play and write the music, point at a few bits on a screen, a producer puts it all together and they stand around in photos looking moody and getting paid. Daddy G does even less for his money than 3D, which is almost an impossible feat.

I don’t understand this “Get everyone else to play and write the music” thing that you mentioned. If this were true it would say so on the album sleeves. I can only assume you have some personal vendetta against the individual members of Massive Attack for some weird reason because there really is no justification to talk down about their music or their songwriting abilities. They have never done a bad record; literally everything they have ever done is pure quality. I think you just need to accept that Del Naja and Grant Marshall write the music and lyrics. It’s a fact, not a matter of opinion. I find it strange that in this day and age of such incomprehensibly terrible ‘music’ from shite-merchants such as The Ting Tings, Wombats, Hoosiers, Kaiser Chiefs, The Twang, Razorlight etc etc etc, that you can criticize Massive Attack!! We need more bands like them.
