Mastodon have announced that they will be releasing covers of tracks by The Flaming Lips and Feist to celebrate this year's Record Store Day.

The Georgia metallers, who just completed their largest UK tour to date, will release a cover of Wayne Coyne and co's 'A Spoonful Weighs A Ton' and Feist's 'A Commotion' on 7'' vinyl next month. Feist will in turn cover Mastodon's 'Black Tongue' for her own vinyl release.

This year's Record Store Day takes place on April 21 and is already confirmed to feature special releases from Arcade Fire, The Black Keys and Tim Burgess.

Mastodon released their fifth studio album 'The Hunter' late last year. They will return to the UK in July to play Sonisphere Festival, where they will perform 'The Hunter' from start to finish.

Speaking to NME about the 'The Hunter', the band said that they had consciously tried to make a simpler record, saying: "Ordinarily, we would spend a lot of time making life difficult for ourselves in the studio. But this time round, because there was so much stuff going on outside the band, it became difficult for us to pile on the pressue in the studio."
