Mastodon's new album will be feature "lots of epic greatness", according to drummer Brann Dailor.

The US band will release the follow up to 2011's 'The Hunter' next year and spoke to Rolling Stone about their recent recording sessions with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Foo Fighters, Queens Of The Stone Age).

"It's gonna be massive and insane, lots of epic greatness," says Dailor on the subject of the new record. "There will be lots of huge riffs and new directions. It's real weird, real math-y, real straightforward. It's up, down and all around. It's a culmination of everything for the band. The snowball keeps rolling and collecting snow."

Discussing Mastodon's time with Raskulinecz, Dailor says: "He's a rock guy. He's a rocker. He likes to rock. I'm a fan of all the Deftones records he's done, all the Alice In Chains stuff, and he worked with Queens Of The Stone Age on 'Songs For The Deaf'."

Pressed for a release date, the drummer was reluctant to name a date but was adamant that the record is on its way. "There's very few things that anybody can do to stop a Mastodon record from being born," he says. "And this thing's gonna get born, OK? And there's nothing anybody can do about it. We're ready to lay them shits down. We're ready to rock."

Earlier this month, Mastodon announced that they have have helped to make their very own craft ale. Black Tongue, which is named after the opening track on the band's 2011 album 'The Hunter', was co-created by the UK's Signature Brew company, who last year made a beer with Frank Turner.
