Maximo Park had a valuable guitar stolen yesterday (May 13) on the first night of their UK tour.

Just before the band were set to play back-to-back shows in their hometown at the Newcastle Academy, guitarist Duncan Lloyd had one of his favourite guitars stolen. The guitar - a 1079 brown and gold Gretsch Country Gent - was formerly played by Joe Strummer of The Clash and was purchased from Stella Barker of Belle Stars.

Maximo Park have announced that they are offering a significant reward for the safe return of the guitar and will keep any information strictly confidential. They ask that those with knowledge of the guitar's whereabouts please email maximopark@warprecords.com.

The band are scheduled to perform again tonight (May 14) at the Newcastle Academy before heading to the Glasgow Academy tomorrow and continuing their UK tour.
