Maximo Park have revealed plans to play two intimate shows in Stoke and York this May.

The gigs lead up to the Newcastle band's appearance at The Great Escape festival in Brighton on May 10.

Maximo Park will be showcasing songs from their forthcoming fourth album at the gigs which take place at Stoke Sugarmill on May 8 and York's The Duchess on May 9. The band will embark on more UK shows later this year, with dates to be announced. They'll also play at Newcastle's Revolution festival and Kendal Calling, along with a handful of European dates.

Speaking to NME, frontman Paul Smith recently told fans to expect an "exciting, emotional and energetic show" at The Great Escape, adding: "We're the kind of band who rise to the occasion."

The band have been working on their new album, the follow-up to 2009's 'Quicken The Heart', with Foo Fighters and Pixies cohort Gil Norton, ahead of an expected summer release.

Maximo Park play:

Stoke Sugarmill (May 8)
York The Duchess (9)

Tickets for the two new headline shows go on sale on March 9 at 9am. To check the availability of Maximo Park tickets and get all the latest listings, go to NME.COM/TICKETS now, or call 0871 230 1094.
