Maximo Park closed the first evening of Brighton's Great Escape last night (May 10) with a headline set at the Dome.

The northeast quintet raced through a set that took in a variety of cuts from forthcoming release 'The National Health' and a selection of old classics from their previous three albums.

Kicking off with the title track from their newest offering, the band energetically took in a series of new songs before launching into a selection of fan favourites including 'Graffiti', 'Books From Boxes' and 'Our Velocity'.

Closing the set with 'Apply Some Pressure' from their debut album 'A Certain Trigger', the five-piece thanked the crowd for welcoming them back, before leaving the stage with no encore.

Earlier in the day newcomers Pond played to an impressively large crowd whilst elsewhere at the festival the likes of Mystery Jets, Niki And The Dove and Peace all performed to packed out crowds, with queues reaching far beyond the venues to gain access.

The Great Escape continues today, as The Temper Trap play the Dome with support from Clock Opera and Cymbals, while the Africa Express Sound System take on the same venue on Saturday, with support from Reverend And The Makers.
