Maximo Park have announced a bid to break the world record for playing the most instores in one day.

The Geordie five-piece have scheduled live sets at no fewer than five independent record shops in their native northeast this Saturday (June 16).

The world record attempt will promote the band's fourth album 'The National Health', which was released yesterday (June 11). You can stream the album in full here.

Frontman Paul Smith (pictured) said: "All of us are regular record buyers and we prefer to indulge this passion at the shops of independent retailers who have a genuine love of music and knowledgeable, friendly staff. With that in mind we've decided to try and play at five northeast independent record shops in one day to celebrate the release of 'The National Health' - an organisational nightmare and quite possibly foolhardy, but we like to stretch our boundaries occasionally. Join us!"

Maximo Park's instore schedule on June 16 will run as follows:

11.30am Sound It Records, Stockton
1.45pm Hot Rats, Sunderland
3.30pm RPM, Newcastle
4.45pm Reflex, Newcastle
6pm Beatdown, Newcastle
