Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has made an album with former Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz.

Mustaine told New Zealand's 3news.co.nz that Spitz asked him to play on the record, which he's releasing under the name Deuxmonkey, during an impromptu studio visit.

The former Metallica guitarist said: "I am in the studio with Dan Spitz from Anthrax. He was working on a little side-project I'd heard a while ago and I asked him, 'Do you think it's done?' He asked me why and I said, 'Well, I would kind of do this and that.' And he said, 'Go ahead.' So I rolled up my sleeves and completely dedicated myself to Danny's record."

According to Mustaine the Deuxmonkey album sounds like a cross between Soundgarden, Disturbed and Rage Against The Machine.

The singer also spoke about his problems with his current label, Roadrunner. He said, "Roadrunner is going out of their way now to try and give me this new huge deal, and I just don't want it. The treatment's been terrible over the years, and I just don't want it. I would rather retire than continue to play like that."

He also said that Megadeth will start recording a new album in January.
