Metallica's ninth studio album has taken the top spot on the US Billboard chart after hitting Number One in the UK earlier this week.
'Death Magnetic' - the veteran rockers' first album in five years - sold 490,000 in just three days' time, reports Reuters.
In addition to being available in shops and online, the album was sold via non-traditional outlets including a concert/ticket album package from Ticketmaster, through the 'Guitar Hero' video game, and together with Metallica-branded headphones.
