Lou Reed has described the collaborative record he has made with Metallica as a "marriage made in heaven."

It was announced yesterday (June 16) by the San Francisco thrash legends that they had been working with the former The Velvet Underground man on a joint project for the last few months.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Reed said of the collaboration: "It's a marriage made in heaven. I knew it from the first day we played together: 'Oh, man, this is perfection, right in front of me'."?

Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said of the project: "I don't think we've ever felt this free, There's nothing that's totally outside of the boundary for us, nothing that feels like 'Oh, what happens if we go there?'"?

Bassist Rob Trujillo added that he believed the collaboration with Reed would make Metallica "a better band".

Tracks set to feature on the album include 'Pumping Blood' and 'Mistress Dread'. Metallica are currently without a record deal, so have not confirmed how the project will be released.

The metallers headline Sonisphere Festival on July 8 at Knebworth Park as part of their world tour with Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth.
