Metallica are planning to produce a 3D film about themselves.
The metal titans, who have spent the summer touring with Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth as part of 'The Big 4', will self-finance the film and have hired Charlotte Huggins, who produced 3D epic Journey to the Center of the Earth, to help them with the project.
According to Deadline, the band are currently searching for a director to make the film. There are no details yet on whether the plan is to simply make a live concert film or whether there will be a narrative of any kind, just that the film will be in 3D.
Metallica release 'Lulu', their new collaboration with Lou Reed, next week. The album, which is based around German playwright Frank Wedekind's 1913 play about the life of an abused dancer, is due for formal release on October 31, with the North American release following a day later on November 1.
You can hear 'Lulu' online in full at the project's official website Loureedmetallica.com.
