Trivium: 'Anyone who thinks they understand Metallica's 'Lulu' must be on drugs'

Paolo Gregoletto says he and his bandmates can't get their head around the collaboration with Lou Reed

Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto has spoken about his band's reaction when they heard Metallica and Lou Reed's collaboration album 'Lulu', saying that he reckons you "must be on drugs" if you think you understand the record.

The album, which is based around German playwright Frank Wedekind's 1913 play about the life of an abused dancer, has been met with a mostly negative reaction from critics and fans alike and the Trivium bassist says his band cannot get his head around why the metal titans recorded it.

Asked what he thought of 'Lulu', Gregoletto told Metalshrine [via Loudwire]: "It’s really weird. Do I understand it? If anyone thinks they understand it, they’re on drugs. It’s a weird album, man! We listened to most of it. We were just like, 'What the fuck is this?' It’s so weird. I saw some videos of it live and if those dudes are happy doing that, then more power to them, because they’re still my favorite band, but it’s really weird and I think everyone thinks that, too."

Metallica will headline next summer's Download Festival, playing their 1991 self-titled fifth album - widely known as The Black Album - in its entirety.

Trivium will play a seven date UK tour next month, which kicks off at Southampton Guildhall on December 1 and finishes up at Plymouth Pavilions on December 8. They released their new album 'In Waves' earlier this year.
