The first trailer for Metallica's 3D movie has been revealed online. Scroll down to watch.

Titled Metallica - Through The Never, is unusual hybrid of concert movie and fictional feature film. Actor Dane DeHaan, best known for roles in Chronicle and The Place Beyond The Pines, plays a crew member who gets given an urgent mission during a gig - with life-changing results.

Metallica confirmed that they were working on a 3D movie project back in January 2012, but gave away little else at the time. The film was written and directed by Nimród Antal, whose previous credits include 2010's Predators.

Bob Berney, president of distributors Picturehouse, told The Wrap: "Nim and the band have made a film that really captures the spirit of Metallica and their millions of loyal fans. It's an entertaining genre film with a concert inside it, a fun ride featuring an exciting young actor, Dane DeHaan."

Metallica - Through The Never will open in IMAX 3D on September 27 in the US, before transferring to regular cinemas on October 4. A UK release date has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Metallica's James Hetfield has offered fans an update on the band's new album, saying: "I want it done yesterday."
