Metallica to debut new material at South American gig this weekend

Band working on new song in rehearsals ahead of live show in Colombia on Sunday (March 16)

Metallica have revealed that they will play a new song during their South American dates this weekend.

The band will play live at the Parque Simon Bolivar in Bogota, Colombia on Sunday (March 16), the first date of a South American tour which will include dates in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru throughout March.

A post on the band's official Facebook page earlier today revealed that the group are set to play a new song during their live show. "Working out the kinks in the new song that we'll be debuting in South America in a couple days," reads the Facebook post alongside a picture of all four members of the band, frontman James Hetfield plus Rob Trujillo, Lars Ulrich and Kirk Hammett.

A second post, this time on Twitter, also confirmed the band's plans to play new songs.


Earlier this year Metallica guitarist Hammett said that the band "have to" start working on their next album. When asked if the record would likely be released in 2015, Hammett said: "I'm fucking up for it, man".

The metal giants released their last album, 'Death Magnetic', in 2008, while their collaboration with the late Lou Reed, 'Lulu' was released in 2011. They've also toured and played festivals extensively in the past five years, including a slot at last month's Grammy Awards, when they teamed up with classical pianist Lang Lang to perform their track 'One'.
