Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has expressed his approval for Nirvana being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame tonight (April 10).

The Seattle band (pictured right) became eligible for induction this year, meaning they are being brought in at the first possibly opportunity.

Asked by Rolling Stone for his opinion on this year's inductees, Ulrich – whose own band were admitted in 2009 – said: "Nirvana is a no-brainer for the first year and I'm glad that Kiss is getting the long-overdue recognition that they deserved for everything that they pioneered…"

He also had a suggestion for an act that has thus far been overlooked by the Hall. "Deep Purple. That's all I have to say: Deep Purple. Seriously, people, 'Deep Purple,' two simple words in the English language."

The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony will take place at Brooklyn's Barclays Center tonight. Michael Stipe will induct Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello will induct Kiss, and Bruce Springsteen will induct the E Street Band. Coldplay's Chris Martin will do the honours Peter Gabriel, while , Glenn Frey of the Eagles will induct his former bandleader Linda Ronstadt. Stevie Nicks, Carrie Underwood, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow and Bonnie Raitt will perform a tribute to the singer.
