Will Ferrell and Chad Smith challenge Metallica's Lars Ulrich to drum-off competition

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has revealed that his drum battle with comedian Will Ferrell has also been extended to Lars Ulrich of Metallica.

Earlier this year Ferrell and Smith engaged in the light-hearted challenge on The Tonight Show. The pair dressed identically in jeans and Kiss T-shirts for the occasion, highlighting how similar they look.

It was Ferrell making light of the uncanny similarity during a Reddit Ask Me Anything that led the Red Hot Chili Peppers man to challenge him to a duel.

Speaking to Spin about that night and future battles in a new interview, Ferrell said: "I mean, we did talk about another drum-off, Ferrell explained: "With a third person that looks eerily similar to Chad and I. A third drummer out there … Lars gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now, too."

Smith added: "There it is. The gauntlet is down."

Ferrell was declared the winner in the first drum-off after bringing out a cowbell and playing along to the song 'Don't Fear The Reaper', originally by Blue Oyster Cult.
