Metronomy unveiled their new album 'Love Letters' at an intimate show last night (January 29) in Brighton.

The band played almost all of their fourth LP in public for the very first time at The Old Market venue, including the singles 'I'm Aquarius' and the album's title track, which premiered last week on SoundCloud. The show was Metronomy's first since finishing up the 2012 festival season in Berlin in September of that year. "We're slightly out of practice," commented frontman and songwriter Joe Mount early on the set. 'Love Letters' is set for release on March 10.

Opening with new track 'Monstrous', they followed it with the previously unheard 'A Month Of Sundays' and 'Love Letters', before delving into their back catalogue for 'The Look'. The band, playing as a five-piece, opened the set sporting matching burgundy blazers – save for drummer Anna Prior – and white slacks. The gig saw Joe Mount seated at a keyboard for a number of songs, switching to stand and play guitar and bongos for the older tracks in the set. "There's a whole new system going on, you see," he said to the sold out crowd. "After years of playing gigs, I quite fancied having a sit-down." Keyboards for the show were hidden behind specially made white plinths featuring hidden flashing coloured lights and Prior's drumkit was lit from the inside by strings of multicoloured LED lights.

New songs 'Reservoir', the bongo-featuring instrumental 'Boy Racers', 'The Most Immaculate Haircut' and 'Never Wanted' were also aired during the hour and 20 minute long show. The biggest crowd reactions of the night were saved for fan favourites 'The Bay', from the band's 2011 album 'The English Riviera', and 'Heartbreaker' from 2008's 'Nights Out'.

Metronomy embark on a 12 date tour of the UK in March after a set at the Paris Maroquinerie on January 31 and at the inaugural BBC Radio 6 Music Festival in Manchester on February 28. They will also play an instore gig at London's Rough Trade East on March 9, the day before the release of 'Love Letters'. They headline Field Day on June 7.
