MGMT reveal second album plans

Band set to hit the studio in January

MGMT have revealed that they plan to record their second album in January and release it in summer 2009.

Speaking to BBC 6Music, the duo said that they were keen to start writing the album, but were struggling to find time in their schedule.

"We've been longing to get in the studio for a while because we got out of it recording our last album ['Oracular Spectacular', released last March] about a year ago," said Andrew Van Wyngarden

"We're definitely ready to start working on some new stuff," he added. "I think in January we’re gonna start recording and hopefully put an album out next summer."

His bandmate Ben Goldwasser explained: "We work better when we sit down in a room and go for it, but we don't have much time to do that right now."

MGMT ARE THE BUSINESS AT THE MOMENT! Kids, Electric Feel and Time to Pretend are tunes we still haven't got sick of yet...http://www.myspace.com/themattanddanshow

It'll be hard for them to top Oracular Spectacular but I'm sure it will be genius! I can't wait to see what exciting tunes they've got under their bandanas.

MGMT are so predictable. That rockstar life plan thing’s working out quite nicely for them. They're definitely not pretending. They exchanged their counter-culture ideals for a big Columbia logo on their CD.They might look like hippies; they might be credible, fascinating, boundary-pushing artistic originators; but they don’t have any qualms about signing to a major record label that’s going to pump millions of dollars into making them a household name. They had the vision, alright. Somehow they managed to convince the world that hippy is the new indie, even Camden has morphed into bandanna-land. The Dublin Castle is not the same anymore, too many Vanwyngarden look-alikes for my liking. And it doesn't end there. Latest news, Andrew Vanwyngarden steals Johnny Borrell's girlfriend. kick in the balls if you ask me.“Let’s make some music, make some money, find some models for wives. I’ll move to Paris, shoot some heroin and fuck with the stars”Oh Yes, indeed.
