MGMT play intimate Brighton V Festival warm-up gig

MGMT performed at Brighton Beach's Digital venue last night (August 21), warming up for their appearance at the V Festival this weekend (August 22-23).

The US band showcased new songs at the sold-out show including 'It's Working' and 'Song for Dan Treacy', set for their forthcoming second album (expected to be released in early 2010), as well as older fan favourites.

The duo took to the stage at 9:30pm (BST), assisted by a drummer and two guitarists. They opened with 'The Handshake', with frontman Andrew VanWyngarden addressing the crowd's applause by saying, "Thanks motherfuckers, I know you want some music tonight, that's all you're going to fucking get."

VanWyngarden's signature head scarf was nowhere to be seen until he briefly donned a red one for 'Destrokk'.

During the set he invited two members of the crowd onto the stage and put forward the question, "Does anybody know the words to 'Kids'?" The band then launched into an energised version of their hit single.

Later, with the band taking bathroom breaks and getting their drinks refilled, a 14 minute-long performance of 'Metanoia' ended the set.
