MGMT have unveiled a bizarre and futuristic video for new track 'Cool Song No 2', featuring a starring turn from The Wire actor Michael K Williams.

Williams, who plays Omar in the smash hit US drama, plays a 'plant hunter' in the promotional clip. A plant hunter is a criminal who turns trees into drugs. As the video continues, Williams' character then proceeds to fall for a man mutated by the drug before concluding with a tragic finale.

The band - comprised of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser - also released their eponymous third album this week. Read NME's verdict on the Brooklyn duo's efforts here.

Earlier this year VanWyngarden also opened up about the record, revealing that the duo felt "more at ease" with themselves than they had on 2010's 'Congratulations". "We’re feeling a little bit more at ease and ready to take whatever comes our way. First and foremost we feel like we’ve made a really good album that reflects who we are right now, which is a little bit less distraught, nervous and paranoid than we were three years ago. For lots of different reasons, 2010 was a wild ride for us," he stated.

Goldwasser then went on to elaborate, calling 'Congratulations' a "paranoid" album and explaining that the band didn't "feel that [they] were in control" which "came across on ‘Congratulations’ a lot". "The way that we wrote the music, it was intentionally uncomfortable. On the new album we wanted to make something that you could really sink into," he concluded.

Meanwhile, MGMT are due to head out on tour next month, starting in Glasgow before ending up in London.

MGMT will play:
Glasgow ABC1 (October 12)
Wolverhampton Civic (13)
Manchester O2 Apollo (14)
London Forum (16)
