MGMT are offering fans the opportunity to play the giant cowbell when they play 'Your Life Is A Lie' on their upcoming US tour.

"A video posted on Instagram, which can be seen below, reveals details of the competition. One winner per city will be selected from contestants who upload a video of themselves playing along to an MGMT song of their choice. Winners for gigs in will all be selected ahead of the band's tour dates in Detroit, Louisville, Charlotte, Durham, Richmond, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Wallingford, Atlanta and Washington DC.

Earlier this year the band said that they think it is unhealthy for bands to share too much information on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. Both Ben Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden said that they felt uncomfortable with feeling like they are expected to update fans constantly with information and revealed that they held off starting an MGMT Twitter account until earlier this year.

MGMT released their eponymous third album in September. Read NME's verdict on the Brooklyn duo's efforts here.
