MIA to personally pay fine after Super Bowl middle finger incident?
The 'Bad Girls' artist will apparently have to dip into her own pockets if halftime show broadcaster NBC is charged
Gossip site TMZ reports that sources have told them MIA signed a contract with the National Football League in which she agreed to compensate them for any fines they might have to pay if the Federal Communications Commission backed any complaints about the broadcast.
In 2004 broadcaster CBS was given a $550,000 (£347,749) fine after Janet Jackson accidentally bared a nipple during her halftime performance. The fine was however later thrown out after appeal.
NBC was forced to issue a full apology after MIA's controversial gesture yesterday (February 5). The singer was performing with Madonna on her new single 'Gimme All Your Luvin'' alongside rapper Nicki Minaj.
In a statement given to the Hollywood Reporter, NBC said: "The NFL hired the talent and produced the halftime show. Our system was late to obscure the inappropriate gesture and we apologize to our viewers. There was a failure in NBC's delay system. The obscene gesture in the performance was completely inappropriate, very disappointing, and we apologise to our fans."
