The director of a documentary about MIA has quit the project after leaking a trailer for the film online.

Director Steve Loveridge urged MIA's label Interscope to "wake up" after posting the five-minute long trailer to his personal Tumblr page last night (June 7). Kanye West, Diplo and Julian Assange all appear in the trailer for the film, which tells the story of MIA's life as well as discussing her music and political beliefs. Loveridge subsequently posted an email he received from Interscope demanding the trailer be removed from YouTube. Though the trailer has been removed, copies of it still exist on the video site. Scroll down to watch the trailer now.

"I know how frustrated you must be with the [film]," an Interscope employee wrote, "but I promise we've been having ongoing conversations internally, trying to get legal stuff and funding resolved, it is going to move forward and get done in time for this album cycle and festivals." Loveridge's response was blunt. "I really couldn't give a flying fuck. Count me out. Would rather die than work on this."

MIA also began discussing the film on her Twitter, mentioning that Kickstarter could be a viable means to getting a release for the documentary. "I'm gonna need @kickstarter and my fans to help make this exist, I've been blacklisted through normal channels!"

MIA was due to release her new album 'Matangi' in late 2012. However, she revealed that her US label Interscope were not quite convinced by her work because it was too positive. "If I didn't get it out now, I would have definitely exploded," she said.

'Matangi' will be her fourth studio album, following the release of 'Maya' in 2010. A one-off single, 'Bad Girls', was released in 2012.
