MIA debuts new song at Montreal concert - watch
The untitled track was performed at Montreal's Metropolis venue
The singer/rapper performed the untitled new track during a gig at the Metropolis venue on Wednesday (17 June), with fans speculating that the track will feature on MIA's next album 'Matangi'. The untitled song follows the official release of 'Only 1 U', and 'Bring The Noize' earlier this year.
'Only 1 U' was first played on London-based online radio station NTS on June 28 by guest DJ Ital and subsequently found its way online. The track follows the anti-establishment sentiment on 'Bring The Noize' with MIA rapping: "There's trillions of cash/And there's billions of us/And there's millions of things that can happen with the stock ... But there's only one you/And I'mma drink to that."
It is not yet known if 'Only 1 U' will make its way onto MIA's new album 'Matangi'. The album is set for release this autumn on NEET/Virgin EMI. Of the release, MIA recently said: "It's not easy, it's not easy. I keep finishing it and handing it in, finishing it and handing it in."
MIA was due to release 'Matangi' in late 2012. However, she revealed that her US label Interscope were not quite convinced by her work because it was too positive. "If I didn't get it out now, I would have definitely exploded," she said.
'Matangi' will be her fourth studio album, following the release of 'Maya' in 2010. A one-off single, 'Bad Girls', was released in 2012.
