MIA headlined the first day of Bestival 2013 with an energised set with a Bollywood slant.

For her first full UK gig since 2010, Mathangi 'Maya' Arulpragasam bounded onto a stage bedecked with Hindu-inspired symbols in an Indian headdress before launching into a megamix of tracks spanning her career. Flanked by two dancers and supported by a percussionist and backing singer, she kicked off with brand new track 'Only 1 U' before 'Bucky Done Gun'. She then went into 'Bring The Noize' – the second single from her long-delayed new album 'Matangi'.

Linking songs with solo raps and electronic segments, and dancing in the style of Hindu deity Vishnu while shrouded in pink veils, MIA's setlist followed that of her August show in Japan’s Makuhari Messe venue. "This is a new song, it came out yesterday," she said before 'Come Walk With Me' and announced "that was me showing you some love," at the end of 'Boyz'.

During 'Born Free' she stopped the backing track to tell the audience "I'm not trying to put you in a bad vibe but you have to [sing along] with a bit more aggro," before switching tracks to better-known hits 'Galang' and 'Paper Planes' and set-closer 'Bad Girls'.

MIA played:

'Only 1 U'
'Bring The Noize'
'Bucky Done Gun'
'Bird Flu'
'Bamboo Banga'
'Come Walk With Me'
'Boyz'
'Sunshowers'
'Story To Be Told'
'Born Free'
'Galang'
'Paper Planes'
'Bad Girls'
