Producer James Nederlander has confirmed he now owns the rights to a stage version of ‘Thriller’, inspired by the legendary Michael Jackson video.
According to Nederlander, the show is bound for Broadway in New York, and will include songs from Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and ‘Off the Wall’ albums.
"I love the idea of making 'Thriller' a musical. Girl meets boy, they fall in love, boy has big secret, now what?" Nederlander said in a statement, according to the Associated Press.
As previously reported, rumours of the show surfaced in November of last year.
The 14-minute video clip for the track, taken from the album of the same name, was directed by John Landis and made waves upon its release in 1983 due its length and cost, which at the time was $500,000.
After shifting over a million copies a week for over a year, 'Thriller' became the worldwide best-selling album of all time, and was the first album to be Number One in the US and UK. It won seven Grammy Awards in 1984.
