Judge rules Michael Jackson’s mother will not oversee his estate
His attorney and a friend will take over his affairs
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff has ruled that Katherine Jackson will not oversee the running of Michael Jackson’s estate, valued at around $500 million.
Jackson’s mother had applied to oversee the estate, as well as guardianship of this three children, in the wake of his death on June 25.
The ruling was passed down today (July 6) after it was revealed that Jackson himself had requested in his will that attorney John Branca and music executive and friend John McClain take over his estate.
The pair will be in charge until August 3 when another hearing is set, says the Associated Press.
The judge ordered that Mrs Jackson be informed of any major transactions carried out in relation to the estate.
A massive memorial for Jackson will be held tomorrow (July 7) at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. 8,750 names were chosen from an online lottery over the weekend, which saw 1.6 million apply for tickets.
