Michael Jackson's father says he won't help raise his grandchildren

Michael Jackson's father has stated that he will not take part in raising his three young grandchildren.

Joe Jackson, whose wife, Katherine, was awarded permanent custody of the children yesterday (August 3), said that he plans to visit them but does not intend to get involved beyond that.

In a statement filed recently in a Los Angeles court, Joe Jackson wrote, "I have had a close family relationship with these grandchildren since their birth. I do visit the family residence from time to time and will continue to do so, however I will not be involved in raising the children."

In his declaration he also said that he believes his wife to be a "wonderful caretaker and guardian," reports the Associated Press.

Katherine Jackson's appointment as the children's guardian is in line with the pop star's wishes, who named his mother the person he wanted to look after them in a will he drafted in 2002.
