Conrad Murray appeals against conviction over manslaughter of Michael Jackson

Late singer's former doctor confirms he will be representing himself if case comes to court

Conrad Murray has filed an appeal against his conviction of involuntary manslaughter over the death of Michael Jackson.

The notice of appeal was filed by Murray yesterday (December 2), and it confirmed he will be representing himself rather than allow a lawyer to defend him.

The move comes after he was sentenced to four years in jail earlier this week three weeks after he was found guilty of administering his patient with a lethal dose of Propofol.

Although Murray will represent himself he will also consult Nareg Gourjian, one of his defence attorneys from the Jackson manslaughter trial.

Gourjian told TMZ:

This case presents a goldmine of issues for any appellate lawyer. Dr Murray is confident that the Court of Appeal will vindicate him.

Following his conviction, Murray was also ordered to pay Jackson's three children an amount somewhere in the region of $100 million (£64 million), for their father’s funeral arrangements and loss of earnings for the 'This Is It' concerts which were due to take place the summer after his death in June 2009.
