A letter written by Michael Jackson in which he complains of not being able to sleep has been withdrawn from an auction at the request of his ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley.

The singer, who died in 2009 after asking his doctor to give him a strong anesthetic to help his insomnia, wrote the note to Presley between 1993-1996, Reuters reports.

The handwritten note says: "Lisa I truly need this rest I haven't slept litterally [sic] in 4 days now. I need to be away from phones and business people. I must take care of my health first Im'[sic] crazy for you,"

The note was set to be included in a Music Icons auction at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills, California, on June 23 and 24. "I'm assuming that it's because the note is of a personal nature", chief executive Darren Julien said. "We want to honor the request and continue our good relationship with Ms Presley."

A collection of stage costumes worn by the late King of Pop will go under the hammer at the same auction house on December 2, with the proceeds going towards Guide Dogs of America and the Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. The singer's iconic crystal glove is expected to fetch more than $400,000 (£252,540) at the sale.

In December last year, an auction of Jackson's personal belongings raised nearly $1million (£643,000) at auction. Big-sellers included a blackboard scrawled with his daughter Paris' handwriting: "I love daddy, smile it's for free, love Paris," which fetched $5,000 (£3,200), and a mirror on which the singer had written "Train perfection March, April full out May," in the build-up to his planned London comeback gigs, which sold for $25,750 (£16,560).
